Blu DeTiger: Hair Flips & Beefy Bass Lines at The Wiltern

, ,

Blu DeTiger is not just a talented bassist—she’s also a multi-instrumentalist who started playing the bass at age seven. Born and raised in New York City, she began her musical journey by performing at iconic venues like the Bowery Ballroom and Mercury Lounge as a teenager. Blu’s unique style, blending elements of funk, pop, and electronic music, is heavily influenced by her experiences as a DJ, which is how she honed her ability to read a crowd and keep the energy high.

Opening for The Driver Era, Blu DeTiger kicked off the evening with her signature funky bass lines and incredible hair flips, immediately endearing her to the crowd. Donned in all black and rocking her signature bright blue bass, DeTiger was a delightful sight to behold, frequently running back and forth across the stage to make sure no part of the crowd was feeling left out. The night started out with “Intro to Everything,” followed by a groovy rendition of “Disappearing,” both from her new EP All I Ever Want is Everything. She had great rapport with the crowd and had them singing along to an electrifying cover of “One Kiss” by Dua Lipa. To be completely honest, I had never heard of Blu prior to the show, but she immediately gained a new fan (and many more, I’m sure) with her brilliant performance.

Whether she’s shredding on her bass or DJing at some of the hottest spots in NYC, Blu DeTiger is an artist who knows how to captivate an audience. Keep an eye on her—you’ll want to say you knew her when she’s really hits the mainstream.
